Asphalt Driveway Paving in Dallas, GA

Driveway Paving · Dallas, GA

New and replacement asphalt driveways for Dallas homes

A gravel drive that washes out in every storm gets old fast. So does an asphalt driveway full of cracks and sunken spots. Ground Effects Paving brings asphalt driveway paving to homes in Dallas, GA and all over west metro Atlanta. New driveways, full replacements, extensions and turnarounds are all part of that work.

Every driveway starts with grading and the drainage work the site needs. We haul in the stone base with our own dump trucks, then pave with hot mix asphalt. If the old driveway's base has held up, asphalt resurfacing and milling may be the better fit. Call or text (770) 940-0861, and we will look at the job and put the quote in writing.

What Goes Under a New Asphalt Driveway?

The stone base under a home driveway is thicker than the asphalt on top. So we start below both of them, at the dirt. We clear out roots and topsoil and grade the ground smooth. Weak patches come out, and firm material goes back in their place.

Next comes the base. For a home driveway, trade guidance says a crushed stone base of 6 to 8 inches is usually enough. We spread it to grade and compact it with a roller. We haul that stone ourselves, and we also offer stone hauling and gravel delivery for jobs that stop at gravel.

For the asphalt, the same guidance calls for two layers. That means a 1.5-inch top layer over a 2-inch bottom layer. The hot mix goes down from a paver, and a roller packs it tight.

Driveway Paving on Paulding County Hills and Soil

Most soils in Paulding County carry a limited rating for local roads and streets in the federal soil survey. The two reasons it lists most often are slope and low strength. Low strength means the ground itself is weak at carrying traffic.

So on driveways around Dallas, the work below the asphalt matters most. Weak soil gets a full stone base over it, compacted before any paving. On a hill, the grading also has to move rain off to the sides.

Standing water ruins more driveways than anything else, according to the national trade group for asphalt pavement. As a paving contractor serving Dallas, GA, we build drainage into every driveway we pave.

Your New Asphalt Driveway in the First Few Months

Fresh asphalt can take a car's weight soon after the roller finishes. Even so, trade advice says to let it sit a few days before the first car parks on it. Keep heavy trucks away from it longer, and a moving truck counts.

The asphalt keeps curing for weeks after that. The sealcoating trade group says most hot mix asphalt needs 30 to 90 days to cure. Weather and the type of mix move that window. Hold off on the first sealcoating until that cure is over.

Per trade guidance, a well-designed asphalt driveway can give up to 20 years of use. Drainage that keeps water off the surface is a big part of reaching that.

FAQ

Driveway Paving Questions, Answered

How do you price a new asphalt driveway?
Every driveway is priced from what we see on site. The driveway's size, any old pavement to tear out, the grading and the depth of base stone all move it. Truck access and drainage work count too. We look at the job and put the quote in writing.
What happens to my old driveway when you replace it?
We break up the old asphalt and load it out in our dump trucks. Next, the ground gets regraded and the stone base rebuilt where it is thin or soft. Drainage problems get sorted out before any new asphalt is laid.
We just built a house. Should we pave the driveway right away?
Not always. Fill dirt around a new home can settle. Trade guidance says holding off a few months is sometimes the smarter move. We look at the fill and tell you whether the ground is ready.
Can you make our driveway wider or add a turnaround?
Yes. We pave driveway extensions and turnarounds for homes. The added section gets built like a new driveway, graded first and set on a stone base. A turnaround saves you from backing out onto a busy road.
Do you pave long private driveways?
Yes. A long private drive gets graded and built up like a short one, just over more ground. We carry that work from the road all the way to the house. For a drive that several homes share, or a private road, see our road paving work.
What about permits and buried utility lines?
Georgia law puts a Georgia 811 locate request ahead of digging or grading with machines. The utilities then mark their buried lines. A driveway that joins a state highway needs a GDOT permit for work in that right of way. Cities and counties set their own rules for their roads, and your local permit office can explain them.
